June is Alzheimer’s Brain and Health Awareness Month. I wanted to share a new resource I found at Alzheimers.gov! On this site I came across the Eldercare Locator. This is a public service that connects you to services for older adults and their families. You can give them a call at 1-800-677-1116 or visit their website at https://eldercare.acl.gov June is Alzheimer’s Brain and Health Awareness Month. As a man diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s I want to help you see that a meaningful life with this disease is possible and I would like to be a resource for you. I have experienced the process of recognizing I have something wrong with me, challenges of getting it taken seriously, being tested, navigating a difficult medical system, confirming diagnosis, finding resources in my community, deciding what I do now, and find the resources and strength to be loud and proud about being a man with Dementia/Alzheimer's, and writing a play about it. I have included additional resources you may find helpful in your journey and I would love to hear from you. I will continue to share more resources throughout the month. www.alzheimers.gov/ www.nia.nih.gov/news/alzheimers-and-brain-awareness-month-2024 Dementia Self Management Guidebook: deerprogram.org/dementia-self-management/ Learn more about Dementia Man, An Existential Journey at Dementiaman.com |
